The transfer window is closed but managers are working hard on their plans for the summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool close-in on Thomas Lemar…
Liverpool are on the verge of agreeing a deal to sign long-term Arsenal target Thomas Lemar from Monaco this summer, according to reports in France via the Metro.
Lemar became one of the most sought after young talents in Europe after scoring 14 goals as well as providing 17 assists to help Monaco land the Ligue 1 title last season.
The 22-year-old was strongly linked with a move to Arsenal and Liverpool during the summer transfer window but neither club could agree terms over a deal so Lemar ended up staying in the south of France.
The Premier League duo were once again link in January but Monaco made it perfectly clear they weren’t prepared to let the French international leave in the middle of the season.
Reports in France via TeamTalk claimed last month that Lemar had refused to enter talks about a new contract and had demanded Monaco allow him to move to England this summer with Arsenal and Liverpool ready to do-battle over his signature.
It looks like Jurgen Klopp has stolen a march on the Gunners as the Mirror are citing reports from Le10 Sport that claim Liverpool are on the verge of agreeing a deal to sign Lemar this summer.
The French publication says Liverpool have been working on the deal in recent weeks and are putting the finishing touches on an agreement for the £88m-rated attacking midfielder.
Klopp is in the market for another attacker after failing to replace Philippe Coutinho following his move to Barcelona in January and it looks like Lemar is the man set to fill the Brazilian international’s shoes at Anfield.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming months but I think Lemar would be a hugely exciting signing for Liverpool, or indeed Arsenal, if either club was able to get a deal agreed.
