Man United to sign most powerful striker outside England in June

As reported by Italian outfit Corriere Dello Sport, super agent Mino Raiola is positioning himself to engineering a Mauro Icardi switch to Manchester United this summer.

What’s the story?

Red Devils supporters are familiar with the role of Raiola, who has helped the club see deals for the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic all arrive at Old Trafford.

Now it appears he’s ready to help Jose Mourinho sign yet another elite attacking talent.

Corriere Dello Sports report that the agent is looking to help United sign Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi, who is currently in the midst of negotiations to extend his contract at the Italian club.

With Icardi currently represented by his wife in those negotiations, the outlet reckons that Raiola has approached the Argentinian international about changing representation and, despite being rebuffed, is keen on leading negotiations that could bring him to Manchester.

Given Raiola’s track record of bringing exceptional talent to Old Trafford, it would be premature to write this off as another silly transfer rumour.

Clearly, the future of Icardi’s career is currently being determined and if he feels he could earn more money elsewhere or can challenge for more illustrious silverware, Manchester United wouldn’t be a half bad destination.

Signing a new contract at Inter Milan would rule out an immediate move, but if Raiola and United can disrupt those negotiations with a potential bid then his move to the English Premier League isn’t unrealistic at all.

The player is currently rated as worth £67.5m by Transfermarkt.

Would he be a good signing?

Outside of Harry Kane, Mauro Icardi is probably the most exciting young striker in European football. At 24 years of age, he’s building a scoring legacy at Inter Milan that puts him in the same competition as legends of the past.

So far this season he’s scored 18 goals in 22 Serie A matches, following up on last year’s total of 26 in all competitions.

Mourinho currently has Romelu Lukaku at his disposal, but if he can also add Icardi to his attacking front line, he can bring a goal contribution that takes United to the next level.
