Manchester United have been told to act fast if they want Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
Jose Mourinho has placed the Serbian high on his list of targets this summer after his outstanding season for Lazio. But United have so far been put off by his price-tag of £90m-plus.
Sources in Italy claim a bid of around £80m from United has already been rejected, while Mourinho’s pursuit of Fred could also impact on his decision to spend heavily on a second midfield target.
But Milinkovic-Savic's agent Mateja Kezman has warned that his client’s valuation is only set to rise this summer.
“We agree that he’s one of the greatest products in European football in the last season,” he told Tuttomercatoweb. “I don’t want to talk about numbers, but it’s clear the numbers are going up all the time.”
United have tracked Milinkovic-Savic extensively in recent months as Mourinho prepares to overhaul a midfield that will be without the retiring Michael Carrick next term.
Marouane Fellaini could also leave as a free agent after so far refusing to sign a new deal.
United are closing in on Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred - but Mourinho has continued to pursue Milinkovic-Savic, who was one of the outstanding players in Serie A last season - scoring 14 goals, including three in his last five appearances.
Mourinho has made midfield and defensive reinforcements his priorities this summer, as he looks to spend in excess of £200m to transform his squad.
He wants as many as two midfielders and three defenders, including Toby Alderweireld and Porto right-back Diogo Dalot,
Alex Sandro is among the left backs on Mourinho's wanted list, while he is also looking at forward options including Marko Arnautovic, Gareth Bale, and Willian.
