Fabinho confirmed his £40million move to Liverpool on Sunday night - and immediately spoke of his desire to see fellow Ligue 1 star Nabil Fekir join him.

The Reds sealed their first deal of the summer with the signing of the Monaco midfielder, in a deal worth an initial £39.3million – rising to a potential £43.7m with bonuses.

The 24-year-old had been tracked by a number of leading European clubs with Manchester United and Atletico Madrid thought favorites for his signature.

Liverpool will now turn their attention to strengthening the squad further, with Nabil Fekir high on their priority list.

Fabinho signs for Liverpool Football Club at Melwood Training Ground on May 28, 2018, in Liverpool, England.

Monaco's Brazilian defender Fabinho scores a penalty during the French L1 football match Monaco vs Dijon on February 16, 2018, at the "Louis II Stadium" in Monaco.

The £60million-rated Lyon playmaker is wanted by Jurgen Klopp to bolster his midfield options further after a stunning campaign in France.

And Fabinho says he wants the French international to move to Anfield with him.

"Yes," he told RMC Sport. "He is a very good player, of international level.

"In Ligue 1, it is not only this season that he has demonstrated things. It's been a few years since he demonstrates his quality.

"If he comes, it will be good too."

Fekir, who scored in his country's 2-0 win over the Republic of Ireland as the drama unfolded on Merseyside, remains non-committal over his future with boyhood club Lyon.

Asked after the game in the Stade de France about a potential transfer to Liverpool, he said: "If Fabinho is to be my future team-mate? I will discuss my future after the World Cup not before.

"If I will sign somewhere before the World Cup? Honestly, I don't know."
