Four Manchester United youngsters appear to have been handed first-team squad numbers ahead of the pre-season tour of the US.

With 12 first-team players involved in the World Cup this summer, Jose Mourinho has boosted the numbers for his touring party by promoting four academy players.

James Garner, Tahith Chong, Joshua Bohui and Mason Greenwood were all present for first-team training as the players not involved in the World Cup arrived back at Carrington for the first day of pre-season training on Wednesday.

While numbers on training kits don't always reflect the official squad number of a player, it is highly likely the numbers worn by the players on their practice gear will be the ones they wear on tour.

Seventeen-year-old midfielder Garner was spotted with the No.37, while Tahith Chong, who United fans have wanted to see in first-team action for ages, was handed 44.

Bohui was given 46 while the youngster member of the squad, 16-year-old Greenwood, was wearing 54.

And veteran goalkeeper Lee Grant, who met up with his new teammates for the first time, was seen wearing the No.13.

New signing Diogo Dalot also appeared to confirm that he has been handed the No 20 shirt. He posted a picture on his Twitter account with his new teammates in the gym.

The No 20 shirt has previously been worn by goalkeeper Sergio Romero.

Some fans on social media believe Alexis Sanchez has been stripped of his No.7 shirt because it wasn't seen on his training top. While there is no official confirmation on any squad numbers ahead of the new campaign, the chance of that being true is slim.

The reason some fans have come up with this theory is because the training vest he was wearing didn't have a number on it. But it's clear to see from the other images that none of the sleeveless shirts had numbers.

Daley Blind and Luke Shaw were also wearing the same style of shirts and neither of their tops had numbers on, which showed it is a design decision rather than suggesting anything about Sanchez's number.

Squad numbers are set to be confirmed next week when the team play their first pre-season friendly.
