Ugandan and Simba SC striker Emmanuel Okwi is looking to set a new record after he scored his 19th goal of the season on Monday when Simba held Tanzania Prison at the National Stadium.
Former Yanga striker Mohammed Hussein ‘Mmachinga' still holds the record for the most goals scored during a single campaign by one player. He scored 26 goals in the 2008/2009 season.
Okwi reached Msuva’s record of 14 strikes last season then went on to another Msuva’s record set during the 2015-2016 of 17 goals.
The season of 2010-011 John Bocco netted 19 goals that have breached former Yanga striker Boniface Ambani who netted the 18 goals 2008-2009.
Okwi needs to score three goals to eclipse Tambwe’s record of 2014-2015 of 21 goals in that season.
Okwi needs 8 goals in the remaining 6 league matches to eclipse Mohammed Hussein ‘Mmachingas' record of 26 goals in a single campaign.
Mmachinga reached the feat in the 1999 season with Yanga.
