Paul Pogba took a break from his injury rehabilitation at Manchester United to link up with one of the club’s long-term targets, Antoine Griezmann, on Friday night.
The French midfielder has been sidelined since the end of September, but travelled to Paris to watch the national team take on Wales in a match they won 2-0.
Griezmann gave a superb performance for Didier Deschamps’ side, opening the scoring to dispel fears over his form following an unspectacular start to the new campaign with Atletico Madrid.
Pogba made his way into the changing room to congratulate the French players on their performance – though there was only really one man he wanted to see.
Although Pogba high-fived and hugged several of his Les Blues teammates, it was Griezmann he made a beeline for, chatting with the Atletico star in the changing room after the match. ‘My friend,’ said a delighted Pogba when he caught sight of Griezmann, going in for a big hug. ‘Oh it feels good to see you my friend!’
Pogba also posted an Instagram story of his meeting with Griezmann
Pogba had expected to line up alongside BFF Griezmann at United this season, hinting at his arrival at the end of last season, though Atletico’s transfer ban ultimately saw the forward choose to remain in Madrid.
United, for their part, decided to switch targets from a No.10 like Griezmann to an out-and-out No.9 in Romelu Lukaku, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s knee injury necessitating a rethink. Pogba has been sidelined with a hamstring injury but is working hard to return
But Griezmann continues to be linked with a switch to Old Trafford, either in January or next summer, with Atletico’s ban lifting when the window reopens – meaning Diego Costa will finally be able to play for the club.
Pogba, meanwhile, has been undergoing fitness work at the club’s Carrington training ground after suffering a hamstring injury and could be in line to return to the United squad against Newcastle on November 18.
