PHILIPPE COUTINHO knows the clock is ticking over his transfer from Liverpool to Barcelona.
Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Philippe Coutinho are targets for Real Madrid and Barcelona
The Brazilian remains their key target and a move could be pursued again in the January window.
But Liverpool have remained firm since last summer, having rebuffed all approaches from the Catalan giants.
The Reds are still reluctant to sell star creator Coutinho.
However, they could be forced into losing one of their key attacking talents.
Real Madrid have emerged as potential suitors for Mohamed Salah, who has flourished in his first season at Anfield.
VIRGIL VAN DIJK is joining Liverpool in January, but how will he fit into the team?
“Coutinho wants Barcelona to use Real’s interest in team-mate Salah”
And according to Spanish outlet Don Balon, Coutinho wants Barcelona to use Real’s interest in team-mate Salah.
Liverpool are said to be clear in their stance that only one of the two can leave.
If Barcelona can stop Real pursuing Salah, it will make the mission of landing Coutinho far easier.
Coutinho believes this will be key to Liverpool being willing to negotiate over his departure.
Barcelona would need to act sooner rather than later, and it could see the Reds’ No.10 head for the Nou Camp as soon as the New Year.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have agreed to sign centre-half Virgil van Dijk from Southampton for £75m, with the Dutchman's move to be made official on January 1.
