CRISTIANO RONALDO and Sergio Ramos are attempting to put the brakes on Real Madrid’s potential swoop for Paul Pogba, reports in Spain suggest.
The Manchester United midfielder is on Real Madrid’s wish list ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Spanish publication Don Balon.
It is claimed that Ramos has caught wind of club president Florentino Perez’s targets.
The Los Blancos skipper and Ronaldo are reportedly concerned about the effect Pogba could have on the dressing room harmony.
According to Don Balon, Ronaldo believes Pogba would be an ‘unnecessary signing’ for Real Madrid.
The £89million man has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford following a series of poor performances that resulted in him being dumped to the bench by Jose Mourinho.
He was reportedly involved in a training ground bust-up with Mourinho but his agent Mino Raiola denied suggestions a rift has emerged between the midfielder and Mourinho.
Paul Pogba was left out of Manchester United's matchday squad against Liverpool, and fans think they know why
Speaking about the speculation over Pogba’s future last month, Raiola said: “I don’t take anyone anywhere, I’m not a taxi or a plane.
“Of course, if things weren’t going well then I’d be ready to do my job, which is to find other solutions for the club and the player.
“There’s no war with Mourinho though, Paul wants to win with Manchester United.”
Mourinho has described reports that Pogba could be sold in the summer as “a lot of lies”.
Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing Paul Pogba from Manchester United
“You can call it speculation, I would call it a lot of lies,” he said.
“Paul accepts he has not been playing well in the last few matches but that is all.
“It is a big lie that we don’t communicate, that we don’t agree about his best position and that we don’t have a good relationship.”
Pogba has previously claimed he was the subject of interest from Real Madrid before returning to Old Trafford.
“To be honest, Real Madrid came to me and I was thinking to go there, and I was thinking to go to Manchester United too,” he said last year.
“But I always felt it in my heart. My heart told me to come back here [Manchester], I don't know why, I didn't know what was going to happen.
“But I did it, and I don't regret. I never regret my choice.”
