REAL MADRID star Luka Modric has been hit with a staggering £668million price tag by club president Florentino Perez.
The midfielder is a wanted man after his heroics for Croatia this summer helped them finish runners-up at the World Cup in Russia.
Although he didn’t get his hands on the main prize, Modric still came away with the Golden Ball as the tournament’s best player.
The 32-year-old has never been short of admirers but it is believed Inter are leading the way in the race for his signature.
The midfield maestro is currently on holiday following his World Cup exploits by the latest comments from the Real president suggest he’ll be staying put at the Bernabeu for the upcoming season.
Although Perez didn’t completely rule out an exit, the fee he is demanding will all but end any interest in the former Tottenham star.
He said: “The only possibility that Modric leaves is by paying €750million [£668m].”
Having already allowed Cristiano Ronaldo to leave for Juventus this summer it does seem unlikely the club would let another key player go without receiving a substantial transfer fee in return.
Modric played 43 games for Real last season, culminating in their third successive Champions League title.
The first match of the post-Ronaldo era didn’t exactly go to plan for Real as the La Liga giants suffered a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United.
And Marcos Llorente, who has returned to Madrid after a season on loan at Deportivo Alaves, insists his side can’t dwell on the good times they had with Portuguese superstar.
"It was our first match, we finished at a high level and left the pitch feeling good", the midfielder explained.
"My goal is to work hard every day and be 100% ready when I'm called upon.
"Of course I want to stay here, I never wanted to leave.

"It's obviously a big hole to fill without Cristiano, but we have to move on.
"Of course it's difficult to lose a player who scored so many goals, but the team has to be back to the level that it had with him in the side.
"We have a lot of great players here to make up for it."
Next up for Real Madrid is a clash against Ronaldo’s Juventus on August 5.
