In the summer, it would have been no surprise if Daniel Sturridge had left Liverpool.
The striker had dramatically fallen down the pecking order due to various injuries and lack of form.
However, during pre-season manager Jurgen Klopp continuously praised Sturridge, indicating that he did have a role to play in the 2018-19 campaign.
The 29-year-old was never going to be a regular starter, but he moved ahead of Divock Origi in the ranks and it looks as though he will feature regularly in cup matches.
On Tuesday night, the striker started Liverpool’s EFL Cup third-round match against Chelsea at Anfield and he opened the scoring in the 59th minute.
The Reds were unable to hold on, though, as Chelsea earned a late 2-1 victory, with Eden Hazard nabbing the winner.
Twitter account @empireofthekop posted Sturridge’s record so far this season, which prompted a debate about the striker’s quality, and some are not convinced given that he missed a golden opportunity to score.
