Mohammed Ibrahim ‘MO’ scored the winning spot-kick as Simba SC won the 2017 Community Shield with 5-4 penalties at National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Going into a season in which will be scrutinized like never before, this was pretty much the perfect way for Simba SC Coach to get things going.
The Men in Red from Msimbazi have the feeling of silverware in their fingers once again via a victory carved out of the type of resilience they have long been accused of lacking.
The game may have meant little and told us barely anything about the season to come, but Simba have started the campaign in encouraging style by winning the Community Shield, beating Yanga on penalties after the game ended 0-0 in 90 minutes of the play.
On penalties: Yanga’s full back Kelvin Yondan missed the first kick after Aishi Manura stepping up the spot away, with Congolese midfielder Kabamba Tshishimbi, Kamusoko, Ibrahim Ajib and Donald Ngoma scored their spots.
Simba’s Mohammed Hussein also missed his 5th spot, but Mwanjali, Okwi, Niyonzima, Kichuya and Mo Kabaye scored their kicks.
The clash ends after Juma Mahadhi’s spot goes outside of the bar, but Simba’s player Mohammed Ibrahim ‘MO’ made it 5-4 and put the seal on a triumph that provided for his Club with encouragement.
However, the 2017 Vodacom Premier League’s new season seems to bring new beginnings, fresh ideas and exciting additions.
Simba SC certainly started looking much the brighter team, with their attacks showing the purpose that Yanga's lacked.
