Tanzania Olympics Committee (TOC) has challenged sports bodies in the country to invest in youth sports, saying the future of sector depends on involvement of youngsters.
This was said by TOC President Gulam Rashid in Dar es Salaam today and he hailed Athletics Tanzania (AT) as well as Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) for putting more emphasis on youth development.
He urged other national sports associations to borrow a leaf from the two association and invest more on youth development.
“ As the country we need more developments on youth sports, invest a lot in youth programs, am asking others to follow what you are doing , having a youth team means we have a strong future” he said
He said this when the association handed over the national flag to four junior athletes who will represent the country at the coming youth commonwealth games in Bahamas,
The national junior team depart the country tomorrow for this year Bahams Youth Commonwealth Games which gets underway on Tuesday.
He told the four junior athletes the country is behind them and wants them to bring medals for Tanzania.
The event gets underway from July 19-23 and Tanzania will be represented by athletics Francis Damas and Regina Mpigachai and swimmers Celina Itatilo and Collins Saliboko while Mwingwa Mwanjala will double as head coach of the athletics team and leader of delegation.

The youth commonwealth games was introduced in the year 2000 to give young athletes the platform to showcase their talents and 1300 athletes aged 14-18 compete.
