Tanzania senior national team ‘Taifa Stars’ have dropped ten position in Coca-cola’s FIFA ranking, the reason be mentioned as poor opponent they played against.
Taifa Stars played Malawi at FIFA calendar friendly match on October7, 2017 and Tanzania have dropped from 125 to 136 and 116 to 117 respectively.
Tanzania head coach, Salum Mayanga, told Azania Post that the biggest reason on to why African giants refuse to play with Taifa Stars is due to poor ranking of the nation in FIFA.
“We always play with the neighbouring teams who are always looking as ‘underdog’, so it’s hard to rise to the top rankings like what Ugandan is currently doing.
“Tanzania fails to have giants like Nigeria, Ivory Coast or Cameroon but they deny due to FIFA ranking as we are so far from them.
“We have asked to play with Benin and Congo Republic but they disagree to play with us because of the same reason,” Mayanga said.
Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) must build strong national teams with number of professional players and build good football relationship with top African ranked team that they can agree to play Taifa stars.
