Who’s next TFF President? Madega to challenge current President Malinzi
FORMER Young Africans Sports Club (Yanga) chairman, advocate Iman Omar Madega has picked election forms to challenge Jamal Malinzi for the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) presidential seat in the soccer governing body’s general election presently set for August 12.
Incumbent president Malinzi was the first aspirant to pick election forms yesterday to defend his seat, followed by Madega, formerly a TFF executive committee member.
It will be an engaged race considering that the two had once led Yanga at different positions.
Madega was the Jangwani Street’s side chairman while Malinzi served as the club secretary general.
Others who picked forms at the TFF headquarters in Ilala, Dar es Salaam vying for the vice-president’s post are Mara Regional Football Association chairman Michael Wambura, Dodoma Regional Football Association chairman Mlamu Ng’ambi and Geofrey Nyange Kaburu, who is vice chairman for Simba Sports Club.
Meanwhile, the Tanzania Women Football Association (TWFA) will stage its general election on July 8, it was announced yesterday.
Election committee chairman, George Mushumba, said that election forms will be released on Monday and June 22 will be the deadline for returning the forms.
He said the election committee will go through names of the applicants on June 23 and announce names of qualified candidates the next day. He said filing objections and appeals for the candidates will be allowed from June 26 to June 30.
The names of qualified candidates will be made open to the public on July 4 and campaigns kick off on the same day, climaxing on July 7.
Mushumba named posts to be contested for as chairperson, vice chairperson, secretary general, assistant secretary general, treasurer, a member to represent the body at the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) general meeting and four TWFA executive committee members.
The TWFA election is staged after four years, with the current chairperson being Amina Kaluma.
