So far Neymar and Real Madrid have had talks over a possible move on two occasions and now perhaps, 12 years on it will be the third time lucky.
Neymar had a trial with Madrid when he was 14, having arrived in the Spanish capital with his father and agent Wagner Ribeiro. He got to see the facilities at Valdebebas and trained with players like Dani Carvajal.
All appeared to be moving smoothly with Los Blancos requesting the local Madrid federation for him to named in their youth team but after two weeks training and having convinced the coaches, he decided to return to Brazil.
Ribeiro wanted 60,000 euros for his transfer which Real refused.
In 2013, Neymar passed a medical in Brazil with Madrid and even signed an agreement. Following Barcelona's involvement, Florentino Perez sent a member of the club's legal team, Javier Lopez Farre, who said that the deal was closed.
However, demands made by Santos and the change in certain requirements from the player led to Madrid to pull out.
Now Madrid and Neymar are being linked together again, and time will tell whether on this occasion there will be a happy ending.
