Substitute Juma Mahadhi strike was enough to ensure a narrow win for Young Africans in their African Champions League encounter against Seychelles champions St. Louis at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
The goal came after 67 minutes of the match, a minute after Mahadhi joined the action.
Yanga striker Obrey Chirwa had the chance to give the hosts a 24th-minute lead, but his spot kick was off the mark.
After the opening goal, the visitors had a moment of dominance, trying to find an equalizer but the Jangwani giants held firm.
Ibrahim Ajib, returning from injury layoff missed two clear-cut chances.
The second leg will be played after one week in Seychelles.
Yanga assistant coach Shadrack Nsajigwa said he was already looking forward to the return leg.
“The first leg match is now complete and we are looking for the return leg,” he said.
