Yanga Sports Club secured a 3-1 win over visiting Stand United at the Natıonal Stadıum in Dar es Salaam to set up a mouth-watering title charge with bitter rivals Simba.
Sımba Sports Club tops the standings with 46 poınts but with a far superior goal difference.
This is the seventh consecutive win for the Jangwani giants in the league despite facing some financial difficulties in recent months.
Yanga opened the scoring after only 6 mınutes of the encounter following a sustained pressure on the visitor’s half.
Yusuph Mhılu swung in a superb cross to the Stand United goal only for Stand United defender Ally Ally beat his own keeper for Yanga’s first.
Yanga forward Ibrahim Ajib registered his seventh goal of the campaign six minutes later. He also has 5 assists for his teammates.
Stand United started the second half strongly and managed to half the deficit through Vitalis Mayanga.
Zambian striker Obrey Chirwa made certain of the three points and denying Stand United of an incredible comeback after finding the net in the 84th minute to make the score 3-1 for the home side.
The striker has now scored 12 goals in the current season.
Speaking after the game, Stand United defender Ally Ally regretted the mistakes made during the game but promised to work on them and make sure they do not happen again.
“We played well but we made some mistakes in our defense, but we will correct that in the next match,” he said.
Yanga winger Yusuph Mhilu promised to maintain the winning streak to make sure they defend their title.
''We wıll make sure that we win the game,'' he said.
Yanga will be in action this week against Townshıp Rollers of Botswana in the AfrıcaChampıon League.
